Big Day Out 2011

For years I've always wanted to go to the Big Day Out for once in my life. Well on the 30th January, that dream came true. Yesterday would have to have been the best 12 hours of my life, despite the 40 degree heat and the amount of money wasted on buying water bottles to keep us from passing out. It will go down as a day that I'll remember for the rest of my life.

The Bands I've seen:
-The Vines
-The Naked and Famous
-Children Collide
-Washington
-Angus & Julia Stone
-Birds of Tokyo
-Crystal Castles (walked past their set on the way to BOT)
-MIA
-Matt & Kim (Kim's booty dancing on the hands of the crowd was a highlight)
-Sia
-Iggy and the Stooges
-Rammstein (starting to like them)
-Operator Please

Also went into the silent disco which was kinda like being at a nightclub with headphones. Really cool though

Now I will leave you with some pics from BDO. These were the only good ones.

Short Poems

My hands seize the steering wheel
Checking the mirror, determined expression in place
As I make my way down that road that I’ve driven before
The music in my stomach begins to play
And soon I’m at crossroads again
My head says left will keep you healthy
But my heart craves for the calories on the right.
To me, the right lane is sin city.
I tell myself no, if only the message would reach my stomach
The wheels turn.
I will go left next time promise.. Not that I can promise anything to myself these days
Intervention anyone?
(December 2008)

It’s that one day
That one day during the weekend
The one where I don’t have to spend my time waiting on people for a reasonable wage,
I should be happy, which I totally am
Of course, finding something to do on that day is an issue
Track down the friends I haven’t seen in a while
See what’s going on in their lives
Abandon home and soak in the fun that we’ll have
Otherwise endure countless marathons of classic sitcoms
Stuffing my face and catching cabin fever.
Rather catch normal fever.
So here I am
whoring myself
online
Take me out now
Cause at my age it’s never too late…
(January 2010)

Sculling down that glass of vodka
With a hint of sweet vanilla
My taste buds want more
Expensive but worth it
Attempting to lip read the story my friend is telling me
Over the loud combination of R&B and noisy gossip
I’m at a cool bar
A low-key 21st
6 showing up, three seats available
Only half the people invited will miss out
TV screens on the wall
Broadcasting sports grabbing mostly male attention
Cheering for their teams
One standing out showing midget wrestling
that caught my eye in fascination
like vampires talking in southern accents
But not as much as the headlining act on the dance floor
The Kochie lookalike tool
grinding his lady friend
Thinking he’s cool
With his prehistoric dance moves
Made this night memorable.

Music: Washington - Underground

This is probably one of my favourite songs off her album. It's just so beautifully written.

When I'm gone, don't bury me
I will not lie under this town
I will not lie where I can't see
Please don't put me underground

If the day is sunny, let my father say some words
If the night is sunny, let my mother tell you all her stories
Oh my sister will bake a cake, and on it she'll write something funny
Go down to the city square and give the artists all my money

As for all that is inside
You can give to medicine
As for all my bones and hide
Just find a fire to put 'em in

If the day is sunny, let my father say some words
If the night is sunny, let my mother tell you all her stories
Oh my sister will bake a cake, and on it she'll write something funny
Go down to the city square and give the artists all my money

Though I may be relatively young
I hope in the final moments
I hear every song I've ever sung
At once

When I'm gone don't weep and moan
Where I'm going is a pleasant stay
I'll visit my grandfather's home
Drink gin with Billie Holiday

If the day is sunny, let my father say some words
If the night is sunny, let my mother tell you all her stories
Oh my sister will bake a cake, and on it she'll write something funny
Go down to the city square and give the artists all my money

When I'm gone, don't bury me
I will not lie under this dirty town
I will not lie where I can't see
Please don't put me underground
No, please don't put me under.

I'd Rather See Serena.

On Friday night I was really looking forward to seeing Venus Williams in action at the Australian Open against Andrea Petkovic from Germany. After enduring through the men's singles match between Gael Monfils and Stanislas Wawrinka for two and a half hours, I got all excited when Venus came out of her sister's shadow and into the arena. However my excitement was cut short when she got a pelvic muscle injury after only one game which led her to withdrawing the match altogether. I was so disappointed since I had never been to the tennis and Venus was the only player that I knew. I do feel sorry for Venus for having to pull out and I do hope she gets better but then again she did get injured in a previous match and should have focussed on getting some R&R instead of agreeing to play that night. Otherwise the injury would have gotten much worse.
Overall I did have a good time at the tennis that night and I hope to go again someday. But to me, this will probably go down as the shortest tennis match I've ever seen.

Short Story - The Roof (written July 2008)

For my Creative Writing Class at uni, we had to hand in a portfolio of four 300 worded writing pieces that were based on exercises that we learned in the past weeks. This was one of the exercises I'd handed in that I enjoyed writing about.

The hinges creaked as I opened the little door in my bathroom which leads to the inside of the roof. It’s like an attic without windows, small and a bit cramped. All these thoughts of what creatures were going to pop out made the hair on my arms stand up. For all I knew someone or something could be living inside the roof, over our heads. I could have a third sibling that I never knew I had? If so what does it feed on? Spiders? I wasn’t going in if there were spiders lurking around. Pushing the exaggeration aside I stepped into the roof and walked on the thin, wooden platforms that were placed down as pathways. They squeaked as I tried taking quiet steps in the blinding darkness hoping that they wouldn’t break in two and send me crashing through the ceiling into the kitchen. My hands didn’t lose touch with the walls as I made my way forward. Finally I came across the light switch.

Sensing a mixture of relief and fear in my stomach, I flicked on the switch and prepared myself for the unexpected. Luckily nothing popped out but then in my peripheral vision I caught sight of a piece of clothing, made out of lycra and in bright, neon colours. It was hanging on a silver coat hanger, casting itself out from the other dark objects like a beacon. I was in awe. It couldn’t be possible. Someone in my ordinary family in this ordinary neighbourhood has been hiding an incredible secret that could possibly boost the level of excitement and fun in this family’s history and now I’m the only one who has uncovered this amazing discovery. One member of my family... is a superhero!!!

Music: Dead Kennedys - Holiday in Cambodia

Brilliant rock anthem about the people who have everything handed to them and take what they have for granted. This song was written about the Cambodian Government being overthrown by the Khmer Rouge movement in 1975 and it can still be relevant today. Enjoy!!

Lyrics:
So you been to schools
For a year or two
And you know you've seen it all
In daddy's car
Thinking you'll go far
Back east your type don't crawl

Play ethnicy jazz
To parade your snazz
On your five grand stereo
Bragging that you know
How the niggers feel cold
And the slum's got so much soul

It's time to taste what you most fear
Right Guard will not help you here
Brace yourself, my dear

It's a holiday in Cambodia
It's tough, kid, but it's life
It's a holiday in Cambodia
Don't forget to pack a wife

You're a star-belly sneech
You suck like a leech
You want everyone to act like you
Kiss ass while you bitch
So you can get rich
But your boss gets richer off you

Well, you'll work harder
With a gun in your back
For a bowl of rice a day
Slave for soldiers
Until you starve
Then your head is skewered on a stake

Now you can go where people are one
Now you can go where they get things done
What you need, my son

Is a holiday in Cambodia
Where people dress in black
Need a holiday in Cambodia
Where you'll kiss ass or crack

Pol Pot, Pol Pot, Pol Pot, Pol Pot, etc . . .

And it's a holiday in Cambodia
Where you'll do what you're told
A holiday in Cambodia
Where the slum's got so much soul

Olive Oyl (written March 2008)

Tall and skinny like a runway model
Although her clothes are out of taste.
With black raven hair it’s a wonder
Why her time is set to waste.
On two men fighting over her
Big with small brain versus short and strong.
Both putting on a show for her heart
I suppose her luck lives on.
With a ruby-red smile
And a helium-sounding voice.
That gives my ears irritation
She makes her obvious choice.
And takes the short and strong
A sailor I must say.
With a tattoo on his arm
She’ll love him every day.
But as feminist act draws near
She’ll quit being damsel in distress.
Walk out to her new career path
And leave him to deal with the baby mess.
When its time for bed
What’s he like in the sack?
Is his yearn for spinach
Just an aphrodisiac?
Or does it make him aggressive
Like a powerful steroid.
Feeling like you’ve married
A wife-bashing android.
But that is just rubbish
There’s no need for violence.
Coz their love for each other
Is as golden as silence.
Although she may have trouble
Ignoring the other guy.
Who sweeps her off her feet
With lust on his mind.

2011 Golden Globes

Congratulations to the winners of this year's Golden Globes. Now I really want to see Black Swan and The Kids Are Alright.

I'm also extremely happy for Jim Parsons for winning Best Actor in a TV Series for The Big Bang Theory. Sheldon rules!!!

Freak of Nature (written August 2006)

I’m covered in black. They wear the rainbow

They concoct the stories. I’m the inspiration

My fists give them bruises. Their nails give me scars

Their iPods play pop. My iPod plays punk

I fall for anti-sell-outs. They fall for girly boy bands

They agree with authority. I’m fully against it

I speak my mind. Their mouths stay shut

They fear the state of dirt. I play in the mud

I see the apocalypse. They see a utopia

Their dads make money. My dad makes drugs

My mum lives with God. Their mums live in country clubs

I don’t care for latest trends. They don’t care for last years taste

They’re desperate for acceptance. I’m desperate for minority

I’m a survivor of moshpits. They won’t stand a chance

They cheer for their boyfriends. I refuse to join in the “fun”

I go to school in stages. They use the school as a stage

Their cats prance through grass. My dog eats them alive

I strum my guitar. They scream like groupies

They’re the teacher’s pets. I’m the teacher’s nightmare

I’ll only eat from the garden. They’ll only eat fewer calories

They collect high heels. I collect ticket stumps

I indulge in BLUNT. They indulge in Dolly

They’re still under the limit. I get wasted easily

I devise plenty of insults. They’re running low on ideas

They like to hold peep shows. I never reveal any flesh

I’m hooked on Skins. They’re hooked on Project Runway

They travel by Porsche. I travel by skateboard

I’m waiting for the right one. They waiting for the right quality

They keep a torch by their beds. I’m not afraid of the dark

They’ll strut on the catwalk. I’ll rock out on stage

To me, they’re two-faced bitches. To them, I’m a freak of nature.

Introduction

Hello and welcome to Livi Avenue.

After recovering from a serious case of procrastination these past weeks, I have finally started my very own blog. Here I will post all the stories and poems that I have written since I was fifteen and also upload some songs that I like depending on random or what ever I'm feeling at the time of the post. I'll also talk about films that I've seen or want to see in the future.

Anyway I hope you enjoy it.
