Book: The Best of Everything by Rona Jaffe

I had some money left over from my Dymocks voucher that I got for my birthday last year so during my uni break I went down to the Dymocks shop in the city and after careful consideration, I decided to read The Best of Everything by Rona Jaffe, which I found to be a scandalous and enjoyable read. The story is set in New York during 1952 and centres around four young women who work for a publishing house. Caroline, a college or university graduate wants to break out of the typing mould and become an editor. April, a naive girl from the country who loses her innocence and deals with an unplanned pregnancy. Gregg, an aspiring actress has an affair with a playwright but after he dumps her she stalks him and finally there's Barbara, a divorcee working hard to support her daughter Hilary. There is also Mary Agnes who looks forward to her upcoming wedding and becoming a housewife.

Apparently, the book was written back in 1958 and is now resurrected on the shelves of book stores everywhere thanks to the popular TV show Mad Men.   There is even a film adaptation of the book starring Joan Crawford which I now want to see. Now all I have to do is find it on DVD.

This book kinda reminds me of Sex and the City but set in the 1950s. If you like Sex and the City then this book is perfect for you. I've also uploaded the trailer to the film of The Best of Everything. Looks pretty good.

Bluetooth Story (October 2009)

This is a mini story I made up one day using Bluetooth names that had come up on my phone while I was on the tram. Enjoy and let me know what you think and if I should make more.

There once was a married couple named Ferret and Brew. Ferret had seen Brew flirting with her fully sick aunt at a family picnic. They got into a fight. He called her a She-Hulk and she called him a Stunt Cock. The fighting started getting worse so they went to see Dr Honey, the marriage counsellor for help. He suggested that they should take tango lessons together to spice up their marriage. It worked or so they thought. One day Brew got a call from his friend Scarecrow  telling him that '"Goose is wid ya missus at GJ’s". Brew drove down to GJ’s to check it out for himself and saw them together, doing the tango. They both stared at each other in shock. Brew walked over to them in anger but slipped on a deakie and fell down hard breaking every bone in his skelator. Ferret ran to his side. He tried to tell her something but all she could make out was "Goonie Goo Goo".

Music: An Horse - Dressed Sharply

Cannot get this song out of my head. Really good band too!!

I have nothing new to tell you
Since the last time that I wrote
But I know with certainty
Your hands will get this note

I don't need any mirrors in the hallway
To remind me how I'm feeling today
I don't want any lights in my house
Turn them off, pull them down, throw them out

I read, I read
I read, I read
A yellow shirt and a blue jacket

I learnt for the first time today
A red flags means that I'll be ok
You get up when I go to sleep but that's just me and geography

I read, I read
I read, I read
A yellow shirt and a blue jacket

Dressed so sharply
You know I will read
Every word that you send me

Lady Gaga on Adele's Weight.

Disclaimer: I do not own Lady Gaga. I am a fan of her and I am aware that the image below is a fake and has been photoshopped. I am just using it to jumpstart my rant.

A friend of mine posted this picture up on her Facebook.

Adele is beautiful no matter what size she is and she is an fantastic singer (her voice is stuck in my head) and the video for Rolling in the Deep is really good. Showing that not all recording artists need to dance and wear crazy costumes in all their videos in order to become successful in their careers. Sure sex sells but that doesn't mean that all great singers and bands have to apply themselves to it. Plus there are alot of female artists like Adele who are big and have amazing voices. Just ask these singers.

Aretha Franklin

Beth Ditto (The Gossip)

Jennifer Hudson

Ann Wilson (Heart)

So there you go.

And now I will end this post with a song worshipping big girls like Adele and the singers listed above.
